Our process …
Sandblasting, or more formally media blasting, is an essential step in the overall metal finishing process. It is the process of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to create profile in a surface and remove surface contaminants. Different media, and different amount of pressure, are used depending on the material being blasted.
EIW specializes in blasting of all types of metals, but the most common is steel and aluminum. Steel is typically blasted with steel grit media ranging from #30 up to #80 grit. Aluminum is typically blasted with glass beads given its softer nature.
Aside from surface preparation of new materials, media blasting is a key process in the restoration of old items. It can aggressively, or gently remove years worth of rust, oxidation, pitting, paint or other items that have built up over the years. Once the clean, newly restored base material has been exposed, the item can then be protected with a clear powder coat, or any of the 1000s of colors available.
